Year 1 A bag for life!

Article 24- we have the right to a clean and safe environment.

Today we talked about COP26 and what it was.

We then thought about ways in which we can start to help our planet. We decided to design a bag for life. The pupil’s came up with some great designs.

Odd Socks Day in Year One

As part of Anti-bullying week we all wore odd socks to school and talked about ‘One Kind Word.’ It sparked discussions about tolerance and respect for all our differences.

We watched CBeebies Live Lesson and found out about the different roles involved in bullying, what bullying is and how to help ourselves and others.

We then made our own Anti-bullying posters and linked it to Article 19- the right to be protected from being hurt and mistreated.

Comic Relief 2021

Article 26: children and young people should get financial support from the government when their parents or guardians are unable to provide them with a good enough standard of living by themselves.

Today the children came to school in non-uniform to raise money for Red Nose Day. We talked about the help that the charity gives to others and how the money raised might be used. We enjoyed sharing our jokes in our weekly celebration assembly and we wanted to share some of our best jokes with you too. We hope they make you laugh!

Article 19-the right to be safe from violence, abuse and neglect.

In Year One we wore odd socks to school to support anti-bullying week. We talked about how important it is to recognise that everyone is different and that those differences should be celebrated. We wore our odd socks with pride and even designed our own pairs of odd socks!

We talked about how we should treat one another and the types of behaviour that are unacceptable and what we should do if we feel unhappy about how we are being treated by others. We designed our own puzzle pieces showing ways we could be kind to each other and look after one another.

Be happy!

Article 31 ‘Every child has the right to relax, play and take part in a wide range of cultural and artistic activities.’

In Year One we had a day thinking all about happiness. The children came to School wearing yellow clothing to help raise money for Young Minds charity. We talked about happiness and how we all have the right to feel happy and safe.

We had a range of activities to help us spread some joy and happiness. We made happy hats, made each other cards to make each other feel special, drew pictures of the things that made us happy and even danced along to happy songs!

Cosmic yoga!

In Year One we love Cosmic Yoga! Today we followed the Popcorn and the Pirates session and we loved it. Popcorn the dolphin had a great message for us today – think positive, stay calm and keep breathing. We love starting our day in this way and it helps support our mental health and happiness.

Article 27 – the right to live in conditions which develop you mentally and spiritually.
