Red Nose Day

On Friday 19th March, it was Red Nose Day and the theme was using the ‘power of funny’. In Year Four we all wrote down our favourite jokes and shared them throughout the day which was fun. This year we raised money for Comic Relief by having a non-uniform day. Children could come into school in non-uniform in exchange for a small donation of money online to help support children less fortunated than themselves. This links to Article 26 of the children’s rights charter:

Article 26 of the UNCRC says that children and young people should get financial support from the government when their parents or guardians are unable to provide them with a good enough standard of living by themselves.

Tree planting

This week we have begun planting the trees that were donated to us by New Wood Ltd following a letter written by our Rightys Ambassadors. The trees are a reminder of the effects of climate change and what we can do as Global Citizens to support the efforts around the world to stop this. In Year Six, the children planted two Silver Birch trees. Hey discussed the importance of looking after them and the impact they will have on th environment.

World Book Day in Year 5

Today it was World Book Day and in Year 5 we focused on:

Article 31: The right of every child to rest, leisure, play, recreational activities and free and full participation in cultural and artistic life.

Reading and enjoying books is a great way of celebrating Article 31.

In year 5 we have been  dressing up as our favourite book character and sharing our favourite books together. Mrs Snell read her favourite book to the class throughout the morning when the whistle sounded and we STOP DROP and READ.

As well as this, the children in Year 5 were able to choose from a range of World Book Day activities including writing a World Book Day book review, writing a Crazy Cake Recipe, creating their own World Book Day book marks and taking part in a World Book Day Maths activity.
