Today we celebrated Marvellous Me day and wore clothes that make us happy. We discussed why we should celebrate this and how we are all unique. This links to Article 8 – You have the right to an identity and article 12 – You have the right to give your opinion.
Article 29: You have the right to an education that helps you to develop your skills and talents.
In Reception this week we went on an imaginary rocket ship to the future and thought about what our favourite job would be as an adult. We explored different occupations and discussed what we might need to learn to be able to do that job. We shared ideas in talk partners and as a class. Some of our favourite ideas were police officers, vets, doctors and an Olympic trampolinist. In our learning time we drew pictures of our dream job. We can’t wait to continue our good learning that will help us reach our goals!

Article 42: You have the right to know your rights.
The children in Year 1 have their class charter and rights displayed in their classroom so that we can frequently remind ourselves of how important they are.
We also share our right of the month in assembly each week.

Year 2: Article 12
Article 12 – You have the right to give your opinion and for adults to listen and take it seriously.
This week in English, Year 2 have been voting on how we can change the materials in our Three Little Pigs story. As a class using a fair voting system, we chose a weak material, slightly stronger material and a really strong material. We discussed this and linked it in with our rights and British Values.
Article 24 – We have the right to eat nutritious food to stay healthy
Children in Need in Year 3
Today in Year 3 we thought about why we have a charity and day to recognise Children in Need. We connected this to our rights and worship to connect this to our learning and values in school.
We made a pledge to always help others who are less fortunate than ourselves. We signed this with a fingerprint to make Pudsey Bear spotty, as this is the theme for Children in Need 2023.

Sacrifice Remembered in Year 5
We have looking at Article 38:
‘You have the right to protection and freedom from war. Children under 15 cannot be forced to go into the army or take part in war.’

On Friday, Year 5 stood for a two-minute silence to remember those who have fought in wars to give us all the right of freedom. We thought about what the word ‘sacrifice’ meant and learnt about why we have a national Remembrance Day on 11th November each year. It was at 11 o’clock, on the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918 that World War I came to an end.
We then coloured in poppies which are used on Remembrance Day to remember the ultimate sacrifice that soldiers made fighting for their country in World War 1 and in other conflicts.

Year 2: Bearpee Challenge!
This week in our PE lesson we have completed a challenge for Children in Need. Joe Wicks has challenged us to complete 1000 burpees and we have smashed it! We discussed the Children in Need charity and why it is so important. We linked this to our Rights. You can sponsor the Year 2 classes via JustGiving!
Article 13
We have a right to find out things.

Article 28: The right to a good quality education
In year one we have been settling in to our new classroom and exploring a range of fun and challenging learning activities.
We made a class charter and agreed to work together to make sure our learning environment is a safe and fun place for all.
We are celebrated in class and as a wider school when we make good choices and understand the consequences if we make bad choices.
We are really enjoying our time in Year One so far and have made some beautiful artwork to represent how we are going to ‘reach for the stars’ this year to achieve our learning goals.
