Some of our Year 5 children have recently completed the Bikeability training course, where they have developed their cycling skills and learnt to ride safely on the roads. Congratulations.
In Year 2, we know we have the right to information that helps our wellbeing, and the right to express how we’re feeling. We use ‘How Are You Feeling’ charts each day to monitor and express our wellbeing. We learn about how to improve and maintain our wellbeing in Mind Up sessions every week.

In Year one we have been very busy settling into our new classroom and learning new routines. As part of this we created a class charter and talked about everyone’s rights and responsibilities within our class to ensure everyone is safe and happy.

In our first week in year 2, we have been talking about our rights. We came up with our own class charter and thought carefully about how they link to our rights! We made a display by decorating hands with qualities of a good class mate on each finger to remind ourselves everyday!

This term our Right of The Term is Article 1- Everyone should know their rights, parents and carers and governments (duty bearers) are responsible for making sure children know about their rights and all children should be able to access their rights.
Yesterday afternoon, the Rights Ambassadors were outside Yr 6 giving out leaflets and letting parents know about their Rights Respecting learning.
They are also looking for anyone who would be interested in helping in any way next year. Would you be able to come into school and do some work with the children? Do you work for/run a business that could promote our Rights Respecting work through sponsorship/fundraising? Could you support our charity work throughout the year? If so please get in touch with Mrs Buff through the school office.
Thank you to everyone who supported us yesterday and we look forward to sharing more with you next term.

In PSHE lessons, Year 3 have been discussing Rights as part of our ‘Relationships’ topic. As part of this topic we have been thinking about global citizens and how there are many of us on this planet who live very different lives to us but one thing that connects us all, are our Rights. We have been learning about our Rights and have started to design posters about a particular Right that they think is important. Well done Year 3.
This afternoon we have been thinking about our British Values, specifically democracy. We recapped what this means and linked it in with the Michael Rosen story – This is Our House. We discussed being fair and creating fair rules for everyone, we have the right to make choices and treat people fairly. We also linked this into Article 12 of our rights which is the right to give your opinion, and for adults to listen and take it seriously.

Last week we led worship for KS1 and KS2 all about Christian Aid. We played a game about wants and needs. We held up picture cards to show the kinds of foods they grow and eat in Burundi. Evie told the story of Aline who lives in Burundi. She made her own business selling avacados and peanuts with the help of Christian Aid who supported her education in business. People are living in poverty all around the world and need our help. Poverty means people don’t have enough food, water, clean clothes and all the things we enjoy. It means you don’t have your basic needs met. These are our rights as children.
We are going to be holding an open session for all parents/carers to come and find out more about children’s rights and what we are doing to support them. There will be stalls and games where you can drop along after school (date TBC). We look forward to seeing you there.
St Michael’s Rights Ambassadors

Article 24 talks about how we have the right to safe water and nutritious food to help us stay well. In Reception we have been looking at how to stay healthy through the topics of Supertato and Handa. Look at the basket of healthy fruits we painted!

In collaboration with Earth Day last week, the Eco Council planned two days of activities. Children were invited to attend school wearing blues and greens. There was no charge for this but we let parents know that if they wanted to give a donation they could. We impressively raised £92. The Eco Council decided that they wanted to send the money to Team Seas, a charity that for every £ donated, a pound of plastic will be removed from the ocean. We are very excited that we have made such a big difference to the oceans, we hope to encourage more to donate to this good cause so our planet wins over plastic pollution. Thank you to everyone who donated. We have the right to protect out planet and have a voice.
