Article 24

Part of this right says that we have the right to the best healthcare possible. In Oak and Holly class, we have been learning about different ways to stay healthy.

Every school day after lunch, we brush our teeth together. This helps protect our teeth and keep them in good health.

Class Charter

In Reception the children helped to create their own ‘Class Charters’. We worked together to look at the different rights and thought about which ones were important to us and our class. We then thought about ways we could respect these rights, such as making sure we raise our hand when we speak so everyone can be heard or helping our friends to feel happy and loved if they are upset or sad. We also decided that the right to play was very important and that in order to respect this right we would try our best to share and take turns with our friends as well as looking after our toys by helping to tidy them away when we had finished playing. To show that we all agreed with the class charter we put a finger print on it and they are now displyed in our classrooms.

Article 29: Talents and abilities.

Our education should help us use and develop our talents and abilities. It should help us learn peacefully, protect our environment and respect other people.

In year one we have been settling into our new class and thinking about how we can ‘reach for the stars’ throughout the year. We read ‘ How to catch a star’ by Oliver Jeffers and thought about how our goals and aspirations are like stars. We thought about the things we want to achieve throughout the year and how we need to behave in order to achieve our goals.

We completed some artwork to display in the School to remind us that we can achieve anything we set our minds to!

Year 5 Class Charter

As a forerunner to the new P.S.H.E. scheme, Jigsaw, the children have been looking at the United Nations rights for children that apply to their environment at school. As a result, they now have their ‘Class Charter’, for which they have selected three rights they deem particularly relevant. These rights have then been interpreted specifically for school, so that everyone can be clear about their entitlement. The charter, moreover, also includes a set of behaviours that link to the class rules. These have been chosen to help to maintain a harmonious environment, and all children are expected to try to demonstrate these at all times.

T-Shirts

Next year you may see our Rights Ambassadors sporting these brilliant t-shirts! The logo was designed by Rohan before he left for Secondary School and the current team came up with the idea of putting it on t-shirts. They will be wearing them at various events next year to raise awareness of children’s rights.

Celebrating differences in Reception

Article 2: No discrimination
In our weekly assembly Holly and Oak class were thinking about how we are all
different and how important it is to accept and celebrate our differences. We
spoke about how we can look different, believe in different things, have different
families, come from different countries and even have different pets! We then
listened to the story ‘All Are Welcome’, a book about a school in which everyone
is welcome to join in and be part of the community, just like our school. We also
thought about some of the ways we are different from our friends and how lovely
it is to find out about each other’s differences.
