Article 31: The right to rest and play

Each Wednesday,  Year 5 have the opportunity to use the play equipment on the field at break time.  The children really enjoy being able to play on the spider web and the fortress with their friends.  They also enjoy playing football on the small playground and joining in with year group matches.

Article 31: You have the right to play and rest

This week year one we’re Eco class of the week as we have been very good at recycling and remembering to turn off the lights and close the blinds when we leave the classroom. As a reward we exercised our right to play and have fun, having some extra time on the play equipment in the sunshine.

We all had a wonderful time 😊

Article 12: The right to give your opinion, and for adults to listen and take it seriously

Everyone has opinions – some more than others. While some of these opinions will be about more mundane matters – favourite colour, best pop band, top football team etc, there are times when our opinions are more important and we want to express them to someone who will listen. If these important opinions are to do with school-related matters, adults within the School will afford children the right to give their opinions and these will be taken seriously.

As a child wishing to have their opinion heard, it is necessary to understand that the class rules must be adhered to when seeking the opportunity to speak. ‘Hand up’ if it is lesson time, for instance. Ask to speak to the adult politely if it is their break or their lunchtime. Approach the adult in an appropriate way, however, and any child will find a ‘sympathetic ear’: someone who will be fair, considerate and interested in bringing about a resolution.

Year Six – Articles 2, 12 and 30

In guided reading this week, Year Six read the poem ‘The Undefeated’ by Kwame Alexander. The book has fantastic illustrations depicting famous people of colour who have shown resilience, perseverance and courage when faced with adversity. Their talents, beliefs and practices were all challenged at some point but they showed the world that they wouldn’t back down and their work should be respected and acknowledged. We linked these ideas with articles 12 and 30.

In PSHE this week, we also focused on article 2 centred around our identities. We learnt a song about individuality and celebrating similarities and differences.

Odd Socks Day in Year One

As part of Anti-bullying week we all wore odd socks to school and talked about ‘One Kind Word.’ It sparked discussions about tolerance and respect for all our differences.

We watched CBeebies Live Lesson and found out about the different roles involved in bullying, what bullying is and how to help ourselves and others.

We then made our own Anti-bullying posters and linked it to Article 19- the right to be protected from being hurt and mistreated.

Article 14

Reception have been looking at this month’s Right, Every child has the right to practice the religion of their choice. We have looked at the Hindu festival of Diwali and explored the different ways that it is celebrated. We dressed up in saris, made rangoli patterns and tasted some Indian snacks. It was gret fun learning about a different religion.
