This afternoon we have been thinking about our British Values, specifically democracy. We recapped what this means and linked it in with the Michael Rosen story – This is Our House. We discussed being fair and creating fair rules for everyone, we have the right to make choices and treat people fairly. We also linked this into Article 12 of our rights which is the right to give your opinion, and for adults to listen and take it seriously.
Month: May 2024
Article 1- Every child has rights
Last week we led worship for KS1 and KS2 all about Christian Aid. We played a game about wants and needs. We held up picture cards to show the kinds of foods they grow and eat in Burundi. Evie told the story of Aline who lives in Burundi. She made her own business selling avacados and peanuts with the help of Christian Aid who supported her education in business. People are living in poverty all around the world and need our help. Poverty means people don’t have enough food, water, clean clothes and all the things we enjoy. It means you don’t have your basic needs met. These are our rights as children.
We are going to be holding an open session for all parents/carers to come and find out more about children’s rights and what we are doing to support them. There will be stalls and games where you can drop along after school (date TBC). We look forward to seeing you there.

Healthy Eating
Article 24 talks about how we have the right to safe water and nutritious food to help us stay well. In Reception we have been looking at how to stay healthy through the topics of Supertato and Handa. Look at the basket of healthy fruits we painted!

Fundraising for Team Seas

In collaboration with Earth Day last week, the Eco Council planned two days of activities. Children were invited to attend school wearing blues and greens. There was no charge for this but we let parents know that if they wanted to give a donation they could. We impressively raised £92. The Eco Council decided that they wanted to send the money to Team Seas, a charity that for every £ donated, a pound of plastic will be removed from the ocean. We are very excited that we have made such a big difference to the oceans, we hope to encourage more to donate to this good cause so our planet wins over plastic pollution. Thank you to everyone who donated. We have the right to protect out planet and have a voice.
