Our whole school community loved eating their Christmas dinners today. They were brilliantly cooked by our kitchen staff and everyone enjoyed them. Thank you!

Our rights in Year 5
In Year 5 we have been discussing our rights.
We chose three United Nations articles at the beginning of the year as a part of our class charter. These articles are:
Article 12: You have the right to give your opinion, and for adults to listen and take it seriously.
Article 15: You have the right to choose your own friend and join or set up groups, as long as it isn’t harmful to others.
Article 31: You have the right to play and rest.
We use these rights to make sure we have a kind classroom where everyone feels welcome and respected.
Thank you to the children for modelling our rights.
COP 27 Year 6
Article 3 – Acting in the best interests of the child
Article 24 We have the right to a clean and healthy environment.
Year 6 have been thinking about our environment and how humans harm our planet. We discussed ways that we can help to create a healthy environment and displayed this in posters and poems.

Year Six – Articles 2, 12 and 30
In guided reading this week, Year Six read the poem ‘The Undefeated’ by Kwame Alexander. The book has fantastic illustrations depicting famous people of colour who have shown resilience, perseverance and courage when faced with adversity. Their talents, beliefs and practices were all challenged at some point but they showed the world that they wouldn’t back down and their work should be respected and acknowledged. We linked these ideas with articles 12 and 30.
In PSHE this week, we also focused on article 2 centred around our identities. We learnt a song about individuality and celebrating similarities and differences.
Article 29
Article 27 – Every child has the right to a standard of living that is good enough to meet their physical, social and mental needs.
In Year Six, we have been looking at this article and making sure we are thinking about our mental and physical health and keeping socially connected at a time when it is hard to see all of our friends. We had an in-school and at-home joint scavenger hunt one afternoon this week and had fun together. We took part in exercise at home and at school. We have also taken part in mindfulness activities to relax and focus our minds.
