Children have the right to get information from the internet, radio, television, books and other sources. Adults ensure that the sources they are using are safe. We have been learning about animals in year one and our senses, we have used the whiteboard, iPads, books and television programmes to help us to find information to support our learning.

We have had a discussion about our rights and how they are valid for everyone. Rights are not just for children, they are also for adults, staff, parents and everyone in and out of our school. The adults in our school support the children in understanding their rights.

As part of our religious and world views learning we discussed the different groups that we belong to. Lots of us spoke about different sporting groups such as football and rugby clubs and some of us are also members of groups such as Squirrels and Brownies. We thought about what we might wear to show we are part of these groups and that we belong

Today we celebrated the children’s wonderful artwork that has been created by every child in our school. It look absolutely wonderful and we have been so proud showing our adults too!

Children have the right to give their opinions freely on issues that affect them. Adults should listen and take them seriously. In year 1 we have looked that the new school menu for September. We discussed what we liked about it and possible changes, these ideas will then go back to the kitchen so they can update the menu using the views we have given.

As children grow the less guidance they will need. In year 1 we have been learning about recycling, with very little guidance from our class adults we used recycling materials to create our own shakers. We cut the tape independently and designed them on our own.

Each week we can bring in something to talk about for show and tell. We all have different favourite toys and we all access different things at the weekend. On a Monday morning we share what we have and what we have done. We all respect each other by listening and understanding that we all enjoy different things.

In Year one we have been very busy settling into our new classroom and learning new routines. As part of this we created a class charter and talked about everyone’s rights and responsibilities within our class to ensure everyone is safe and happy.

This week within our class worship we shared the story of ‘Can’t you sleep Little Bear?’. We thought about how the Daddy Bear was caring for the Liitle Bear when he was feeling scared and couldn’t sleep.

We reflected on our own bedtimes and how our families help us to feel safe and nurtured when we are going to sleep. Some of us like having nightlights, some of us don’t. Some have the door open and some have it closed. We realise that we are all different and all have the right to feel safe and be cared for.

In a year One we have been learning that everyone had the right to freedom of thought and beliefs. We have been learning about Holi Festival which is a Hindu festival of colours.

We talked about the different ways that they celebrate by sharing special food and throwing powder paints.

We designed vibrant, colourful Holi T-shirts.
