World Book Day in Year 5

Today it was World Book Day and in Year 5 we focused on:

Article 31: The right of every child to rest, leisure, play, recreational activities and free and full participation in cultural and artistic life.

Reading and enjoying books is a great way of celebrating Article 31.

In year 5 we have been  dressing up as our favourite book character and sharing our favourite books together. Mrs Snell read her favourite book to the class throughout the morning when the whistle sounded and we STOP DROP and READ.

As well as this, the children in Year 5 were able to choose from a range of World Book Day activities including writing a World Book Day book review, writing a Crazy Cake Recipe, creating their own World Book Day book marks and taking part in a World Book Day Maths activity.

Year 5 Assembly  – Article 36

Article 36 is the right to be protected from any activities or situations that may cause harm.

Together we talked about standing up for others who are treated unfairly. Yesterday 27th January was Holocaust Memorial Day. We looked at the injustices that the Jewish had to suffer during World War II and we listened to a story about the people of Denmark and their King and the people stood up for others who were being treated unfairly.

Year Five Class Charter

In Year 5 we have been exploring children’s rights. We looked at our rights and the children made decisions which values were their top three. After this, we discussed what we would do to achieve these articles in school. Finally, as a year group we will be choosing the most popular articles to become our year group charter.
